The Chandrayaan-3 mission is a lunar lander and rover launched in July 2023. The lander, named Vikram, and the rover, named Pragyan, were carried to lunar orbit by a propulsion module. The lander successfully landed on the moon's surface on August 23, 2023. This made India the fourth country to land on the moon, after the United States, Russia, and China. The lander touched down on the south pole of the moon, a region that has never been explored before.
The lander recorded vibrations on the lunar surface for about five seconds. ISRO said that this natural phenomenon has been recorded on the moon.
The rover is designed to leave an imprint of the national emblem and ISRO's logo on the lunar surface. It will roam over uncharted terrain, sending back data and visuals.
