This week, a novice astronomer managed to capture a fleeting incident on Jupiter, which manifested as a brilliant burst of light caused by a small object.

This apparent impact was also detected by a network of telescopes based in Japan, known as the Organized Autotelescopes for Serendipitous Event Survey (OASES) project, along with the Planetary Observation Camera for Optical Transient Surveys (PONCOTS).

Upon learning of this impact event, an independent amateur astronomer in Japan subsequently shared their own footage on Twitter / X.

This footage was derived from a continuous recording of Jupiter’s surface, as reported by Space.com.

Determining the exact cause of the explosive flash is likely to remain a challenge, but prominent suspects include a substantial asteroid or a comet, Forbes reported.
