Mom's Diary - Aug. 5 to 10, 2023 - Flower harvest, baby socks and finally some sun

As soon as it was dry, I harvested some more pumpkin leaves and stalks and it was also high time to harvest my lavender. The calendua leaves will serve for a salve or as substitute for saffron. Indeed in ancient times the poorer Roman citizens used calendula as a saffron substitute (at least that's what I read). My rosemary has survived it's first year. I was worrying, since before I always had problems. These are frost hardy varieties and soon we will know if they will survive even our winters.
The main container I use to collect rain water was so full, that I had to move the water to our second container manually.
A friend of mine became grandma and she asked me to make baby socks. I was searching for the amount of stitches I need, since I usually knit socks for adults. I started with the first instructions I found and once I went along, I noted that these cannot be for a new born baby. I went on searching and I found another kind of instructions where this number of stitches was used for 13-18 month old babies. Well, so I knit the bigger socks first adapting them to my usual way of knitting socks. The full instructions will be online after the instructions for 0-6 month and 7-12 months old babies, well soonish I would say.
If the sunchokes that grow under the earth as as big as their flowers, I will have a good harvest this year. They are growing really huge.
