When A Stock Halts

When a stock is halted, it means that trading is stopped for a specific period. During this time, brokers and retail investors will not be able to trade in that particular stock, i.e., buy or sell the securities1. Stock halts are in place to give investors and traders time to review the news and make a more informed decision on the stock3. Any pending or open orders may be canceled and any new orders will typically be rejected by the broker.
