4th of July, 2019... Peoria, Arizona...

A stabbing occurred at a circle k parking lot... 17 year old Elijah Al Amin, who was listening to rap music in the parking lot, was the victim.

27 year old Michael Paul Adams was arrested at the scene.

Freshly released from prison on July 2nd 2019... 2 days before the incident.

While the Arizona Dept. Of Corrections did not list Adams as someone who was seriously mentally ill, it was on record that they knew he had mental issues. Most of his previous arrests, were pretty minor... Possessing weed, and doing a bit of shoplifting, but it was noted that Adams was "mentally disturbed."

His crimes started to escalate into violence, where he attacked a security guard in Tempe Arizona... He was incarcerated for this in 2017, and during his incarceration, he assaulted a corrections officer... Eventually Michael Adams was released on July 2nd 2019, and this interrogation took place just 2 days later...

Both the family of Elijah Al Amin and Michael Adams blame the corrections system for what happened that fateful night...
After years of documented mental disorders, Adams was released by the AZDOC to the streets in the very early hours of July 2nd 2019, with no money, food or anywhere to go... This was clearly a recipe for disaster...

In 2019, a year after being indicted on 1st degree murder charges, Adams was deemed incompetent to stand trial. There was a 3 year time frame in which the state had to restore his competency so that the trial could proceed...

After being in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff's office for almost 2 years, Michael Paul Adams was found deceased in his cell on April 17th 2021. He apparently died in his sleep, and as of now, there is no known cause of death...
