One of the most popular landmarks in Ang Thong City is Wat Sang Kratai, an old overgrown temple with Banyan tree roots supporting the structure.

Inside Wat Sang Kratai, you will find a few Buddha images where locals like to come and pay respect. It's beautiful inside with the Banyan trees on the corners of the structure and the overgrown roots stretching their way out, supporting the very structure you are standing in. Nature always finds a way.

Wat Sang Kratai, formerly known as Wat Sam Kratai but later distorted into "Wat Sang Kratai". The builder of the temple is Thuatti Chantanasewi, the mother of Phraya Hatsakarn.

It is a temple where monks stayed for a long time. Next to the temple on the left side used to be a large pond. Later it was filled with soil.
Beside the ubosot, there used to be several cloisters lined up.

The temple was abandoned after the monks that resides at the temple quarreled with each other. The villagers began to lose their faith in the temple and did not come to make merit. With no support from the community the monks left and it became an abandoned temple.

After being an abandoned temple for a few hundred years A new temple was built called Wat Phai Lom. The villagers moved the images of Wat Sang Katai to Wat Phai Lom.

Wat Sang Krarai still remains as an abandoned chapel covered with bodhi trees. The image of the temple is now a popular place to come and take pictures as well as make merit.
