Much much more holding capacity using the land as a huge roof catching all the rain water runoff even in dry climates
Can draw in and support local wildlife such as deer etc.
Volunteer shade trees will begin to grow around the edges (perfect place to plant fruit trees)
Adds natural beauty to the landscape
Primary or backup water source for livestock especially needed in power outages
Can 100% support ducks that give you high quality eggs without needing to feed them expensive grain.
Irrigation (simple solar pump)
Can support fish once stable enough
Year round water source for emergency preparedness if the reprobate throw themselves into the fan
Cant be easily shot and drained to smoke the residents out
Fire barrier or safe place to go in the event of a fire started deliberately or not
Entertainment- Ice skating for Hannukkah!
