I hope this finds you in a great Fall 2023 start! Below is a summary of key highlights for IT@UCF
for the beginning of September 2023. The video for this month goes into detail on each of these issues; you can skip to any section or topic that interests you. Don't forget that you can check status.ucf.edu and uptime.ucf.edu for information on the state of our campus IT services.
If students, staff, or faculty have email migration-related questions, direct them to this website: https://go.ucf.edu/emailsupport
Hurricane Resilience and IT Support
Our team successfully maintained campus infrastructure during Hurricane Idalia.
Service desks were remotely staffed, and all reported network outages were resolved by 7 p.m.
Student Email Migration
The Student Email Migration team has successfully moved 105,980+ student accounts to ucf.edu.
The project was completed in time for the new school year thanks to cross-departmental collaboration.
Network Challenges
On August 21, we faced significant CPU usage spikes on our firewall systems, affecting network performance.
Although the immediate issue has been mitigated, further investigations are ongoing to determine the root cause.
Service Desk Support Team
The Service Desk experienced unusually high call volume, peaking at 765 calls in one day.
The uptick in calls is attributed to the Student Email Migration and the recent network performance issues.
Campus Outreach and Support
IT@UCF had successful tabling events, interacting with over 1,119 students and providing crucial information.
Special accommodations were made to meet the needs of a graduate student requiring accessibility features.
UCF Game Day Preparations
Our IT team was thoroughly prepared for the football season opener, ensuring all systems were operational and secure.
Workday Updates
A major Workday release is planned for September 9, featuring backend improvements and enhanced user experience.
Workday will be unavailable during the weekend of the release from 2 a.m. – 5 a.m.
HEERF Wireless Access Improvements
With HEERF funding, we have purchased 3,300 wireless access points to improve connectivity in instructional spaces and dormitories.
These updates underline our commitment to continual improvement and high-quality service. Your support and feedback are invaluable to us. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns and share with anyone who might find this interesting.
