21st In our series the Epistle of 2nd Peter

I. The Coming Judgment will fall upon the wicked - 2 Peter 2:4-8
* A. Righteous Lot - Genesis 18:23-26, 32 
* 1. Because Abraham pleaded for Lot, he and his family would be spared if they obeyed the Lord’s direction
* 2. Lot’s daughters married to his sons in law were not spared because they would not come out of the city
* 3. His wife was not spared because she turned back - 19:26
* B. Lot was spared while the cities of the plains were Judged - Genesis 19:23-25
* 1. Lot living in Sodom was oppressed, vexed, tormented by the wicked sons of Sodom - 2 Peter 2:7-8 
* a. As the Hebrews were oppressed by their slave masters in Egypt - Acts 7:24
* b. They were worn down with toil, afflicted and oppressed with evil
* c. This forms of sexual immorality is not neutral
* d. It injures the rest of those in society who do not participate in that particular sin
* 2. Evil was done to Lot in hearing and seeing their lawless deeds - root issue is the rejection of God’s Law as Law

II. God will Deliver the Righteous from His Wrath - 2 Peter 2:9
* A. As Disciples we are Immortal until our mission is accomplished on earth - Revelation 11:3-12
* 1. As long as we are doing the work our Lord has given us to do, our life cannot be taken 
* 2. As God spared Lot’s life, so He guards ours 
* B. Don’t let trials take you by surprise - 1 Peter 4:12
* 1. The thin soil withers under persecution - Luke 8:13
* 2. God will provide and escape hatch - 1 Corinthians 10:13
