WHO: COVID-19 incidence in the world increased by 63% in 28 days
From July 24 to August 20, about 1.5 million new cases of COVID-19 infection were detected in the world, which is 63% more than in the previous 28 days, according to the World Health Organization.
In addition, more than two thousand deaths were recorded, which is 48% less than a month earlier.
According to WHO estimates, currently reported cases of coronavirus infection do not accurately reflect the level of infection due to declining testing and reporting around the world.
In the past 28 days, 44% (103 out of 234) of countries have reported at least one case to WHO, a proportion that has been declining since mid-2022.
As of August 30, more than 769 million cases of COVID-19 and more than 6.9 million deaths have been registered in the world.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in May that the true death toll from the coronavirus was at least 20 million.
