Be Free From the Lie of Progress

The concept of progress is more powerful than you think. It’s a force far more assertive than any armed villain or inspirational speech. It harnesses the very experience and need of identity and pulls someone toward an expectation with incredible predictability. But is it possible that the idea of progress is deceptive? Are we not constantly on an upward trajectory? The problem is that every ancient society has thought the exact same thing, only to be judged by those that come afterward. I explore the lifecycle of civilizations and the work of Sir John Glubb, as well as the Book of Enoch, and Ecclesiastes in recounting my own experience of “waking up” from the hypnotic tune of “progress.”
