Vietnam veteran Joe Karpel lost his dog tags as he dived for cover in a 1968 battlefield fight only to have the item returned to him mysteriously many decades later. World War II veteran Wilfred Doerfler was supposed to have been decorated with medals for his valor in fighting the enemy in 1945, but the paperwork was mislaid or lost. Years later, the medals arrived on his doorstep.
