Why Planks Are BAD For Lower Back Pain

Straight planks are not a good exercise if you have back pain, especially in early stages of recovery. It puts maximum compression through certain discs in your spine which could aggravate existing injuries.

Instead, we recommend trying the side plank on your knees as it doesn't have the same degree of strain on those sensitive areas and is more effective at training lateral stabilisation.
