We humans are not the only ones who can suffer from excessive weight, you know. Animals are prone to obesity almost as much as humans are; the little doggies seem to be the most likely to gain weight, like this little pooch.

Meet Lu-Seal the Chihuahua. At the age of nine, Lu-Seal was classified as morbidly obese, weighing in at 16 pounds. For comparison, that would make one extremely large human baby. Her previous owner was not prepared to look after the spotted beauty, so they abandoned her. She was so overweight, she could barely walk and the ligaments in both her knees were torn.

Luckily for Lu-Seal, she found a loving and caring home in the arms of Julia Morley, who took on the mission to bring Lu-Seal back to health. Julia put tubby Lu-Seal on a strict diet, making sure she ate the allotted 200 calories a day, the recommended amount for dogs her size, and that she did her exercises. So far Lu-Seal has lost a total of 6.5 pounds – which would be the equivalent of a 150 human pounds and can now walk a full mile!

According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, about 54% of dogs are overweight, which in turn leads to other kinds of health complications. If you fear your dog is getting on the heavier side, please consult with your veterinarian to check what steps you can take to bring your dog back to its fit glory!
