Every now and then we will encounter a sudden fear come upon us. Anything sudden that is fearful is a guarantee to knock us off our feet. Even if things are going well for a while there is a knowing that anything can happen.

I am not talking about a waiting-for-a-shoe-to-drop paranoia. But a mature experiential knowledge that anything suddenly can happen. As believers we do not base our faith around it or keeping our eyes peeled looking for it. Even if we did it would not work. Which is why the reference is to the word "suddenly."

We are admonished by King Solomon in Proverbs 3:25-26: Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

Yet that sudden strike knocks us down. These sudden blows that happen throughout our lives only turn to our spiritual strengthened and built up advantage.

We grow fearless, more courageous and confident in the power of Jesus Christ to underwrite our wars. Our victory is guaranteed because the honor of His name is at stake.

“Christ is a Prince that loves to see his people thrive and grow rich under his government." ~ William Gurnall
