"Begotten Daughter is the outward expression of an internal condition. A woman's domestic routine shadowed by an internal cycle of codependency and toxic shame. Generations of religious manipulation have handed down a ritualistic and burdened psychology in a modern world. The banality of the ordinary as a canvas for despair; a picture of a women's private struggle with existence."

I made this film in 2017 at the peak (or depths) of my own inner density. A time when I felt stuck in the mire of my own 'victim mentality' and self-imposed restrictions. I had not yet met The Great Mother, or become conscious of Her continuous presence and support in my life. In 2019 I had an explosive 'Kundalini Awakening' in my pineal gland. However, looking back, I realise that this dark time in my life, and my utter determination to feel the pain and see it through, was the most important and foundational aspect of waking up the Kundalini. Spirituality is not only about 'bliss', but it is also about the bravery and tenacity to face the void within.

If we hide from the dark we cast ourselves out of the garden.

This was the first time I used cinema to tell the story of my soul. In doing so, it cast a spell on my own psyche and spirit. Creating from the truth of my inner state is the very thing that enables me to unwind it.
