Wat Sakae was built about 1767 and received Wisung Kham Seema in about 1782. The temple is very famous for a monk that made amulets. The monk was named Doo and is still revered by Thais.

Doo was one of the most respected monks in Thailand and oversea. Due to his reputation in possessing supernatural powers and mastering magic sciences, many people seek his amulets. Many stories about his amulets' supernatural power are circulating among the Thai (the amulets saved many lives and some of them also helped poor people to win the lottery). He was passed away at the age of 88 years old after being in the monkhood 65 years.

On the temple grounds is a large museum that displays some of these amulets as well as things that he used during his life like robes and dinnerware. There are also some of his writings on display that you can see.

A short walk over the canal is the historic part of the temple. It’s part of Wat Sakae but it also has the name of Wat Korokoso.

This historic temple has been rebuilt inside of the old walls. It’s believed to have originally been built in the late Sukhothai or early Ayutthaya era. The temple was destroyed by the Burmese during the capture of Ayutthaya by their forces.

The temple straddles the canal and it’s a very nice to come and enjoy area. It’s east of the main part of Ayutthaya and worth a short trip to see if you have time.
