EU considers sanctions on Niger, while UN warns over humanitarian concerns
The new Nigerien leadership has reportedly given France until September 3 to withdraw all troops, nullifying all security agreements with Paris. Meanwhile, locals appear to be showing increasing hostility to the presence of French troops in the country.
Niger also faces multiple sets of sanctions from both its African neighbors and former
Western partners. However, the UN has urged the West African bloc ECOWAS to make an exemption for humanitarian supplies to the country, as over 4 million people are in need of assistance.
