Gabon becomes latest former French colony to be hit by coup

Senior Gabon military officials have appointed the head of the transitional government, after the country was shaken by a military coup. Earlier on Wednesday, senior Gabonese army officers declared they had seized power, placing President Ali Bongo under house arrest while his son was detained for 'treason and corruption’.
