Date – Thursday, August 31st 2023 – St. Raymond Nonnatus

1. **Birth and Early Devotion:** St. Raymond Nonnatus was born around the year 1203 in Catalonia. He was named Non Natus because he was not born normally, delivered by caesarian operation. He displayed devotion to the Virgin Mary from a young age, praying the Rosary daily.

2. **Divine Protection and Consecration:** Our Lady appeared to him, promising her protection. Despite temptations against chastity, he consecrated his virginity to her, leading to her guidance to join the Order of the Mercedarians.

3. **Entrance into Mercedarians:** After being ordained a priest, St. Raymond Nonnatus dedicated himself to redeeming captives. He freed numerous captives and embraced the Mercedarian's fourth vow to offer himself in captivity for Catholics.

4. **Offering Himself in Captivity:** In Tunis, St. Raymond offered himself as a slave in exchange for Catholic prisoners, enduring harsh captivity and torture, including having his lips pierced with a padlock to silence his speech about Christianity.

5. **Continued Service and Travel:** Freed after eight months of captivity, he resumed active service. The last ten years of his life were spent in Rome, representing his Order and traveling to preach the Crusade.

6. **Meeting with St. Louis of France:** As a representative of Pope Gregory IX, St. Raymond Nonnatus met with St. Louis of France, encouraging him to undertake the Crusade.

7. **Death:** St. Raymond Nonnatus died in Cardona, Spain, on August 31, 1240, at the age of 37.

8. **Devotion to the Virgin Mary:** St. Raymond's deep devotion to the Virgin Mary guided his actions throughout his life.

Let us ask St. Raymond Nonnatus to give us more saints to regenerate the Church and the world, and make the modern man recognize them and be receptive to their message.

St. Raymond Nonnatus, pray for us!
