There have been many techniques and exercises to do to become an aware Being. I studied as many paths as I could only to find not even 1% have any truth. If they do the few that do always bring it down to the physical level. A person claiming all the power of being God or the holder of God's energy. Not able to do one of the truth psychic gifts at any high level. Jesus was one of two that were able to use 32 in the time they were alive. Mary Magdalene was the second. They knew which ones would corrupt the people and the world. Never used all of them. Neither ever said they were God. 
I hate to tell those people God's light and sound is very limited to what can come into this world. Because earth would explode if it allowed all of Its energy to vibrate here. Even the astral world it is still has very little of God's energy. That is were all souls stop for a time, most will reincarnate back to this world. It was called heaven because man at that time could never understand what it really is. Why? They now nothing about death and reincarnation. Buddha did talk about that but nothing past the Astral plane. One can attain complete bliss there meaning they are inside the light and sound - but not able to do anything. At that point they have no desire to do anything else.
