An 8cm (3in) worm has been found alive in a brain of an Australian women.

In a world first, the creature was pulled from the women's damaged frontal lobe during surgery, after she had been suffering an "Unusual constellation of symptoms"_ including stomach pain, a cough and a night sweats evolving into increasing forgetfulness and depression.

Doctors said the parasite could have been there for upto two months.
