Meg 2: The Trench is a 2023 American science fiction action thriller film directed by Ben Wheatley and written by Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber, and Erich Hoeber. It is the sequel to the 2018 film The Meg and stars Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Winston Chao, Cliff Curtis, Shuya Sophia Cai, Masi Oka, Rainn Wilson, and Wu Jing. In the film, Jonas Taylor (Statham) must lead a rescue mission to save a group of scientists who are trapped in a research facility at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.

The film is set five years after the events of the first film. Jonas Taylor is now working as a rescue diver for a deep-sea exploration company. He is called to rescue a group of scientists who are trapped in a research facility at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. The scientists have been attacked by a group of Megalodon sharks, and Jonas must use his expertise to save them.

The film also introduces a new character, Meiying (Cai), a young girl who is the daughter of Suyin Zhang (Li Bingbing), Jonas's former colleague. Meiying is also a survivor of the first film, and she has a special connection to the Megalodon sharks
