A shortage of competent interpreters has become one of the key issues at a training base for Ukrainian soldiers in Germany. The lack of “interpreters” has become the “number one challenge” for the Western military trainers, as per Financial Times.
Language problems have also reportedly impeded the training of Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighter jets. In Denmark, about eight Ukrainian pilots and dozens of support staff are being trained to fly F-16 fighters at Skrydstrup air base. Danish military officials told the FT that the training was being held up by security clearance for the pilots.
Western officials have in recent weeks voiced frustration at differences of opinion over strategy and tactics for countering Russia. One of the German trainers reported that he’s had some tensions with older Ukrainian commanders. The trainer told FT that the experienced Ukrainian troops were trained in Soviet times and sometimes “think they know better.”
