𝗔 𝗗𝐮^𝐚𝐚’ 𝗧𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝗪𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝗣𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐭 𝗬𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐟 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝗥𝐞𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝗛𝐢𝐬 𝗙𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫

𝗔 𝗗𝐮^𝐚𝐚’ 𝗧𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝗪𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝗣𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐭 𝗬𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐟 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝗥𝐞𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝗛𝐢𝐬 𝗙𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫

Allaah sent the Angel of Death, Angel ^Azraa’eel, ^alayhis-salaam, to Prophet Ya^qoob ^alayhis-salaam, to lessen the sadness that Prophet Ya^qoob felt due to his separation from his son Yoosuf ^alayhis-salaam.

So When Ya^qoob ^alayhis-salaam met with the angel of death, he asked him, “I ask you by Allaah, did you take the soul of my son with the souls you’ve taken?” So the Angel of Death said: I have not taken his soul yet. However, I will teach you a du^aa’ - if you say it, Allaah will unite you with your son. Say:

اللهم يا ذا المعروف الذي لا ينقطع أبدا ولا يحصيه غيرك فرج عني ما أهمني

Allaa-humma yaa dhal-ma^-roo-fil-ladhee laa yan-qa-Ti-^u aba-daa wa-laa yuH-Seehi ghay-ruk far-rij ^an-nee maa aham-manee

So Ya^qoob ^alayhis-salaam, said this du^aa’ and he was united with his son Yoosuf ^alayhis-salaam.

This is a du^aa’ that one says if hardship or sadness befalls them and they would benefit by it, by the Will of Allaah ^Azza wa Jall.
