The Artemis program will use the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft to transport astronauts to the Moon2. The SLS is a powerful rocket capable of carrying heavy payloads and will be used to launch the Orion spacecraft into orbit around Earth2. Once in orbit, the Orion spacecraft will dock with a lunar lander, which will take astronauts to the surface of the Moon2.
NASA’s Artemis program aims to return humans to the Moon by 2024 and establish a sustainable presence on the lunar surface by the end of the decade1. The program is named after the Greek goddess of the Moon, Artemis, and is designed to be a collaborative effort between NASA, commercial space companies, and international partners1.
