Ultima VII: The Black Gate — The Forge of Virtue | DOS [#08]

In their last adventure the Avatar and his Companions returned to New Magincia to offer an answer to Alagner's question regarding the true nature of Life and Death, and in return he offered up his invaluable notebook, the culmination of his life work's in cataloguing all there is to know in Britannia and beyond… which-so-happened to be locked away within a vault full of teleporters, invisible walls, and illusions.

Armed with this knowledge they then offered it to the mysterious Wisps, who revealed the whereabouts of an enigmatic being known as the "Time Lord," an entity that had aided the Avatar in the past when he had to confront Exodus — the malevolent offspring of the sorcerers Mondain and Minax, a dæmonic force that was neither man nor machine, so powerful that it wrested even the Great Earth Serpent from the heavens and enslaved it to its will, before its destruction finally brought an end of the "Age of Darkness" that had plagued ancient Britannia, then called "Sosaria."

…or so everyone thought. It had since been learned that the "Dark Core" of Exodus that bound its psyche to the mortal plane still existed upon the dreaded Isle of Fire, a place Lord British once attempted to cleanse of evil by establishing Shrines to the Three Principals of Truth, Love, and Courage …before the island sank into the sea. Now, it has risen once more, and the Avatar has been tasked with taking up the Three Tests to finish what Lord British started and rid the word of Exodus' evil once-and-for-all!
