Pope’s comments on ‘Great Russia’ trigger Ukraine

Remarks by Pope Francis in which he exalted Russia’s history in a speech delivered to young Russian Catholics have been welcomed by Moscow. However, the Vatican omitted the part in which the pontiff praised Russian heritage from its website following criticism from Ukraine. It explained that the Pope’s reference to ‘Great Russia’ was a call for young people to preserve and develop the country’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
