Siddharth Kara is an author, researcher, and activist, who has focused his work on fighting modern slavery. He is the author of the devastating "Cobalt Red: How the Blood of the Congo Powers Our Lives," as well as "Sex Trafficking: Inside the Business of Modern Slavery," among other titles.

I spoke with him about the realities of sex trafficking around the world and the horrors of the cobalt mines, which feed the West's endless hunger for smartphones and laptops, but especially electric vehicles.
