Season is in full swing

Flying foxes, also known as fruit bats or Pteropus, are a genus of megabats found in South Asia, Southeast Asia, Australia, East Africa, and some oceanic islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

There are at least 60 extant species in the genus.

Flying foxes are Old World fruit bats that roost in large numbers and eat fruit, making them a potential pest and cannot be imported into the United States.

They use sight rather than echolocation to navigate, despite the largely nocturnal habit of most species.

The large flying fox, also known as the greater flying fox, Malayan flying fox, Malaysian flying fox, large fruit bat, kalang, or kalong, is a southeast Asian species of megabat that feeds exclusively on fruits, nectar, and flowers.
