Thanks for taking the time to check out the latest video. Please see below for more info on Fireweed. The video would of taken twice as long for me to explain it all in audio and I am still learning more about it. So please excuse any mistakes or our of sync info I may write.

The Fireweed Story (my take on it)

Fireweed is one of the first plants to sprout after a fire.
As the flowers bloom and go up the stalk. (yes the flowers start at the bottom of the blooming area and work the way up). it goes has a few meanings. I will not go fully into it here as I am still learning.
I will post a few links for more info at the end.

From what I have been told as the flowers move up the stem it has different meanings. When half way up summer is half over, When the flowers reach the top 6 weeks to snow. An old saying about Fireweed. “When fireweed turns to cotton, summer will soon be forgotten.”

I have also heard that as the flowers go up it also means different salmon will be coming up the river..

The young shoots can be eaten and bears enjoy them as well. The flowers make amazing Jelly as you can see in this video. They have no natural sugar so pectin and sugar is required when making it. The smell and taste is amazing.

As the flowers get pollinated they close up. Each plant can produce up to 80,000 seeds with in its pods. The pods as they spill the seeds out look like cotton.

I have heard a lot of stories on Fireweed but I can not recall them all as I was told. and searching has not turned up much for me. When I find more info I will do a video just on that part of it. I hope you all enjoy the video and check out the links below as well as the list of friends of the Curmudge Inn's page.
