Viktor Frankl was an Austrian psychiatrist and neurologist who developed a unique perspective on the human experience, meaning, and resilience. Frankl believed that the primary motivational force in humans is the search for meaning in life. He argued that individuals can find purpose and meaning even in the most challenging and distressing circumstances.

Three Sources of Meaning: Frankl identified three main sources of meaning that individuals can derive from their lives:

Creating Work or Doing Deeds: Engaging in meaningful activities, such as creative work, contributing to society, or pursuing personal goals, gives individuals a sense of purpose.

Experiencing Something or Encountering Someone: Meaning can be found through relationships, love, beauty, and the appreciation of nature.

Attitudinal Values: Even in the face of suffering, individuals can choose their attitude and approach to their circumstances. This inner freedom to choose one's response is a source of meaning.

Freedom of Will: Frankl emphasized that while humans may not have control over their external circumstances, they possess the freedom to choose their attitudes and responses to those circumstances. This ability to make choices is a fundamental aspect of human dignity.

Tragic Optimism: Frankl introduced the concept of "tragic optimism," which refers to maintaining a sense of hope and meaning even in the midst of suffering and adversity. It acknowledges that life can present us with challenges, but we can still find purpose and grow through those experiences.
