Prigozhin, who was sanctioned by the US for his alleged role in interference in the 2016 US election, has been linked to the Wagner Group, a Russian mercenary organisation that has been accused of fighting in Ukraine and Syria. The oligarch is also believed to have funded the Internet Research Agency, a Russian troll factory that has been accused of spreading disinformation during the 2016 US presidential election.
