The Thinking Hand Course will introduce students to the language of drawing.

Drawing, like literacy, is a global skill made up of components
sub-skills that are learned step by step. When applied through practice, the
components meld into the smoothly functioning global activities of
reading and writing.
Basic component skills of reading:
Phonetic Awareness (knowing that aphabet letters represent sounds)
Phonics (recognising letter sounds)

Vocabulary (knowing the meaning of words)
Fluency (being able to read quickly and smoothly)
Comprehension (grasping the meaning of what is read)
Many, to be sure, are familiar with these basic components of reading and
writing. What some might not be aware of, and this is due in part to the lack of
emphasis on the language of drawing in the educational system, are the tools
in which one is needed to learn the language of drawing. The above is there to
illustrate that drawing, too, shares in the importance as a global skill.
Basic component skills of drawing:
Perception of Edges (seeing where one thing ends and another starts)
Perception of Spaces (seeing what lies beside and beyond)
Perception of Relationships (seeing in perspective and in proportion)
Perception of Lights and Shadows (seeing things in degrees of values)
Perception of the Gestalt (seeing the whole and its parts).
