The giant panda, one of the most endangered species in the world, has called Chengdu, China, home for more than 8 million years. The Chengdu Panda Base, a non-profit organization, is a renowned breeding and research facility for the giant panda. The Panda Base, which will mark its 25th anniversary in 2012, is home to 108 giant pandas, the world's biggest population of giant pandas bred under controlled conditions.
