At a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on August 25, North Korea's failed second attempt to launch a spy satellite into orbit was condemned by 13 out of 15 members, with only Russia and China abstaining. The US accused Russia and China of not upholding international peace, pointing to their support of North Korea's ballistic missile advancements. North Korea defended its actions, stating its sovereign rights and denying attempts to acquire ICBM technology. China and Russia blamed the US for escalating tensions, citing its military drills with South Korea, and called for unity and peaceful dialogue.
