It's time to stop hating on Rockstar Games. Rockstar Games Receives Massive Backlash Over Red Dead Redemption “Lazy” Port. Red Dead Redemption fans turn their ire against Rockstar after bewildering PS4 port choice. Red Dead Redemption Rerelease Controversy Explained.

Rockstar Games recently announced Red Dead Redemption and the Undead Nightmare expansion coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, including backward compatibility with the PlayStation 5. Since fans had hoped for a remaster or remake on several platforms, including PC, this conversion port has been dubbed “lazy” and overpriced. As such, the studio is under severe backlash over the recent announcement.

After months of speculation, the Red Dead Redemption remaster/remake saga hit a damp squelch of an anticlimax yesterday afternoon, when Rockstar proudly announced it was porting the basic version of the original PS3 and Xbox 360 game, plus its Undead Nightmare DLC, to the Nintendo Switch and PS4. For $50, no less. Fans were upset.

A part of the reason why people were upset over the announcement is heightened expectations. Red Dead Redemption 2 is an undisputed watershed moment in the history of video games, and many were hoping that Rockstar would update their older game to match it. Some called for the first Red Dead Redemption to be remade as a DLC to its successor, while others claimed that it would be a standalone remake. At the very least, a remaster to spruce up the visuals and bring it natively to current-gen consoles was hoped for and even reported on.
