Organizers of Juneteenth are ready for you to enjoy a weekend of fun. The annual event kicked off Thursday at Lansing City Hall. The goal is to commemorate the end of slavery in the U.S. by celebrating the joys of liberty and cultural interaction. Governor Granholm placed Michigan in the history books in June 2005 by officially designating the 3rd Saturday in June as Juneteenth National Freedom Day in Michigan.
