How some Trash almost caused a war

In 2013, Canadian company: Chronic Plastics sent what they claimed to be 103 containers of recyclable plastics to the Philippines for processing. However, when these containers arrived, Filipino customs agents were shocked to find that many of them were full of used diapers and household garbage NOT recyclable plastics

Thus the Philippines demanded Canada take back the waste, but Chronic Plastics refused due to the absence of a repatriation law in Canada at the time. Six years later in 2019 however, the Philippines was struck by a major earthquake so its president used global attention and threatened war against Canada. Faced with global scrutiny, Canada finally agreed to retrieve the trash, ending the bizarre conflict.
