Why Russia and India were racing to reach the Moon's South Pole

India become the first country to successfully land on the moon's South pole with it's Chandraayan-3 spacecraft, just day after Russia's Luna-25 crashed in the same region. both countries launched rockets in the same week, hoping to be the first to successfully complete the mission.
