Adding a bit of pep to my tempo has drastically increased my strength gain over the past couple months. Also, noticed an increase in muscle gain - which is my main goal. I don't really care about the weight, I just want to build muscle, but progressing the weight seems to be the main predictor of growth for me at this point. I was stuck in a bit of a rut for the previous several months up to a year. Desperately searching for something new that would lead to more gains...kinda stumbled onto the fast tempo by accident and BOOM game changer. I still mix in slower controlled reps with a fuller range of motion. I find with these fast exploders inevitably the form goes bad a little bit but I make a conscious effort to not let it slide too far, and stay under control. ALWAYS many many warm-up sets before I get to these fast big daddy sets. Not to mention my 1.5hr mobility warm-up routine before that. I think pushing to the max like this with a fast tempo and heavy weight can be safe if you do all the little things and work up to it. There's always something different you could do to carve out some more progress...I'm always searching. If you are a beginner I recommend using a slower more controlled tempo and getting full control of your movement first. Then, gradually adding a little bit of burst. I’ve added about 20lbs to this movement in less than 2 months working in the 12-15 rep range roughly.
