Demons | Who/What are They?

Demons are ancient, spiritual beings whose sole purpose is to stop the purpose God gave us.
What are they?
Should we fear them?
How can we protect ourselves or free ourselves?

1 Peter 5:8
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

James 4:7
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
