Sept. 13, 1963 - Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy made remarks today before the National Congress of American Indians at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Bismarck, North Dakota. He declared it a "tragic irony" that the American Indian "has for so long been denied a full share of freedom -- full citizenship in the greatest free country in the world."
