Beginner's Guide to Meditation: Sadhguru's Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Choose a Quiet Space:

5. Focus on Your Breath:
Bring your awareness to your breath. Observe the natural rhythm of your breath as you inhale and exhale. Feel the sensation of the breath as it enters and leaves your body.
6. Be Present:
As you focus on your breath, try to stay present in the moment. Let go of any thoughts about the past or future. If your mind starts to wander, gently bring your attention back to your breath.
7. Use a Mantra (Optional):
If you find it helpful, you can use a mantra—a word or phrase—to help you stay focused. A simple mantra like "I am" or "peace" can be repeated silently as you breathe.
8. Practice Non-Judgment:
Be kind to yourself during your meditation practice. It's natural for your mind to wander. When it does, simply acknowledge the distraction and gently bring your focus back to your breath or mantra.
9. Gradually Lengthen Your Practice:
Start with a few minutes of meditation and gradually increase the duration as you become more comfortable. Aim for at least 10-15 minutes per session.
10. End Gently:
When you're ready to finish your meditation, slowly bring your awareness back to your surroundings. Gently open your eyes and take a few deep breaths before resuming your daily activities.
Remember, meditation is a skill that develops over time. Be patient with yourself and make it a consistent part of your routine. As you continue to practice, you may find that meditation brings a sense of calm, clarity, and inner stillness to your life.
