A romantic period ballade usually implies a poetic narrative and often composed without a specific form.

Completed in 1893, Brahms has set this Ballade in ABA form and is a part of his later piano works displaying a forceful opening contrasted with a light middle section. It finishes quietly and, as some have posited, introspectively.

This arrangement by Richard Byrnes is for 4 Trumpets, 4 Trombones, Bass Trombone and Tuba.
