Cheesy Paratha Recipe
For the Dough:
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
Water, as needed
For the Cheesy Filling:
1 cup grated cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite)
1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes (adjust to taste)
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano or mixed Italian herbs
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh cilantro or parsley (optional)
2 tablespoons olive oil (for cooking)
Instructions:
Prepare the Dough:
In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.
Gradually add water and knead the mixture into a smooth, elastic dough. You may need around 1/2 to 3/4 cup of water.
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
Make the Cheesy Filling:
In another bowl, combine the grated cheese, red chili flakes, dried oregano, salt, and chopped cilantro or parsley (if using). Mix well to create the cheesy filling.
Assemble the Parathas:
Divide the rested dough into equal-sized balls, about the size of golf balls.
Take one dough ball and roll it out into a small circle, about 4-5 inches in diameter, on a lightly floured surface.
Place a portion of the cheesy filling (about 2 tablespoons) in the center of the circle.
Seal the Parathas:
Fold the edges of the dough circle over the filling, covering it completely. You should have a stuffed ball of dough.
Roll Out the Parathas:
Gently flatten the stuffed ball with your hands.
Roll it out again into a larger circle, about 7-8 inches in diameter. Be careful not to break the paratha and try to keep the cheese from oozing out.
Cook the Cheesy Parathas:
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
Once hot, place the rolled-out paratha on the skillet.
Cook for about 1-2 minutes on one side or until it starts to puff up and small bubbles form.
Flip and Cook:
Flip the paratha to the other side.
Drizzle some olive oil or butter around the edges and on the surface of the paratha.
Finish Cooking:
Press the paratha with a spatula and cook until it's golden brown and crispy on both sides, and the cheese inside has melted.
Repeat:
Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls and cheesy filling.
Serve Hot:
Serve the cheesy parathas hot with yogurt, pickle, or your favorite dipping sauce.
