As the lead emotion Joy, Poehler will definitely be returning for Inside Out 2. In fact, she took to the stage alongside Docter at D23 for the sequel's announcement. Other actors confirmed to return are Black (Anger) and Diane Lane as Riley's mom (via Movieweb). Smith (Sadness) is the fourth actor listed on Inside Out 2's IMDb page.

Each of the emotions in Inside Out are voiced by notable Hollywood talents and since 2015, some of those actors' stars have risen further. Kaling (Disgust) and Hader (Fear) were supporting characters of the first film but important aspects of the overall story. Due to a contract dispute that saw the pair paid much less than lead Poehler, neither will be returning for Inside Out 2. With two of the five emotions not being voiced by the original actors, the creative team will need to decide whether to replace the voices or the characters altogether.
