You can dispersed camp on public lands in your RV or tent - for free - forever. Really. Ya, there are some rules, but whether you're living full time in your RV, getting away for the weekend, or traveling across the US, you can camp for free on BLM land or US Forest Service Land. The trick is finding the perfect place to RV or tent camp. In this video, we share tips and tricks for finding a place to dispersed camp using an app called The Dyrt. We try to find a dispersed camping spot for our 5th wheel by going deep into the forest.

Boondocking is fun. We started living full time in our RV boondocking in Bear Lake. But that wasn't on public land so wasn't really dispersed camping. We spent most of our time after that in state parks and national parks. It wasn't free camping, but it was fairly inexpensive. We didn't really know how to dispersed camp, even as new full-time rvers. Fortunately, with The Dyrt Pro, you can pretty easily find dispersed camping across the US with their Map Layers feature. You can see where USFS and BLM land is, and most of that is fair game for dispersed camping. The Dyrt camping app has a free version which is great - but the paid version gives you the map layers feature as well as offline maps.
