THIS BATTLE GAVE THE CONFEDERATES CONTROL OF SOUTHWESTERN MISSOURI FOR THE REST OF THE WAR!

The Battle of Wilson's Creek took place on August 10th, 1861 near Springfield, Missouri. Eventually the Union forces were driven back out of the area and the Confederates controlled Southwestern Missouri for pretty much the rest of the war. This battle is also notable in that the Union's first General was killed, that being Brigadier General Nathaniel Lyon.
