Parenting With a Purpose // (Part 1)

Deuteronomy 6vs6-7 NIV —  “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”

God Expects us to be Intentional in our parenting.

Spiritual Legacy can be lost in one generation!

Be Parented by the Lord

Our prayer should be “God, Parent me so I can parent them.”

Our best parenting comes when we think less of being great parents of children and more about being children of God. 

Actions Speak louder than words!

Eph. 6vs4 TPT — “Fathers, don’t exasperate your children, but raise them up with loving discipline and counsel that brings the revelation of our Lord.”

Parenting is Discipleship.

We must address our Childhood before we address our Parenthood!

We don’t have to invent anything or carry the final burden of Parenting; we just have to follow someone.
Take Notice of your Norm

A Liturgy: a form or set of forms according to which public religious worship, especially Christian worship, is conducted. (Oxford Dictionary)

What Practices do we have in our home, either by default or on purpose, that shape our children’s view of God?

What is NORMAL in your home?
Communication is always happening, even when we are not speaking!
Don’t Punish for telling the truth.
Confession is the act of a repentant heart.
If it was good enough for God, then it is good enough for me.

Romans 10vs9 —  “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Discipline is an act of LOVE.

Proverbs 3vs11-12  NET — “My child, do not despise discipline from the Lord, and do not loathe his rebuke.For the Lord disciplines those he loves,just as a father disciplines the son in whom he delights.”

Gen. 2vs22 — NET “And the Lord God said, “Now that the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil, he must not be allowed to stretch out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”

If my consequence leads to alienation, then it is a punishment
If my consequence leads to restoration, then it is discipline.

The consequence should always match the level of transgression. 
NOTHING LESS, NOTHING MORE. Otherwise, it is NOT LOVE. 

We must be extremely intentional and purposeful about what we decide will be the consequence.
